Roman Holiday: Part Two

Just a quick share of one of my favorites so far.  This shot was taken from inside the Vatican Museum before sunset.  While admiring all the amazing artwork inside the museum, the gorgeous scenery out the window caught my eye and I had to get a shot.  Visiting the Vatican at night was the perfect time to beat the crowds and still see all the main parts of the museum.

Roman Holiday: Part One

Even though we are still unpacking, getting reacquainted with our kitties and sorting through photos, I just had to share a couple from our fabulous Roman holiday!
A Swiss Guard outside of St. Peter’s Basilica.
The Arch of Constantine with the Coliseum in the background.

A couple shots from Palatine Hill.
This is a SOOC shot of the Colosseum.  Even though this shot is incredibly noisy, it is hard to go wrong with a subject as beautiful as the Colosseum at night.

SOOC Spitze

For SOOC Sunday, I decided to use some photos I took this week of my boy, Spitze.  I featured some macros of my girl kitty in my last post, so it’s only fair that my boy get some blog time too.

Kitty Cat Macros

I love my little girl, Mia, and I love my 105mm.  Put the two together and I can’t help but love the results.

Love this crazy macro shot of her eye!

Gerhard’s gear.

I’ve mentioned before that Brandon and I love going to flea markets to look for vintage cameras and other treasures. One of our recent finds was an old camera case full of photography gear.  We were so excited when we found this little collection that includes lenses, filters, magnifiers and other things that I still have to figure out.

One of the things I love most about this kit is the thought that it was pieced together by a man named “Gerhard” who, like me, loved photography.  The case has an IATA sticker on it with some of Gerhard’s information and indicates that he flew and traveled with his camera.   The mix of various brands of lenses and accessories makes me imagine that he pieced this kit together over the years.  The only thing I can really be sure of, is that at one time the case was owned by a man named Gerhard, the rest is just speculation.  But it is fun to imagine that Gerhard traveled the world with his camera, taking fabulous photos.  That he was similar to me and just a hobbyist who was excited to combine his love of travel with his love of photography.  Either way, thank you, Gerhard, for passing on your wonderful kit to me and I hope that I get a chance to use it very soon!

Photo Challenge: Green

Photos of the jade necklace that my Mom made for a friend’s birthday was perfect for this week’s “green” challenge at Live Every Moment.  Green is one of my favorite colors and I absolutely love the deep green jade of this necklace.

Macro Monday: Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace

During our trip to Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, I took some macro shots in the gardens.  Most of the flowers weren’t really in bloom (at least not the ones I could get close to), but these leaf buds were opening and I thought they were very interesting.
